Sophos' Kris Hagerman on Powering Cybersecurity as a ServiceCEO Says Need for Managed Security Services Rises Amid More Sophisticated Attacks
The rise of ransomware brokers and the continued talent shortage mean defenders increasingly need security technology managed on their behalf, Sophos' Kris Hagerman says.
Customers must be able to manage all their security products from a single platform, analyze the data these products generate and use artificial intelligence to turn that data into an advantage for the defender, Hagerman says. AI has advanced to the point that businesses can actually get meaningful, actionable information out of the data that's being generated from their point products, he says (see: Sophos X-Ops Debuts to Thwart Complex Cyberattacks).
"For the vast majority of organizations in the world, cybersecurity is becoming so hard, so complex and moving so fast that the truth is they shouldn't even try to manage cybersecurity themselves," Hagerman says. "They should find a trusted partner and work to have it delivered as a service and then get back to focusing on the things they really want to be great at."

Hagerman is responsible for all aspects of Sophos' strategic direction and business operations. He previously served as CEO of Corel Corp. Prior to that, Hagerman served as group president of data center management at Symantec, leading a business of more than $1.5 billion that represented nearly 30% of Symantec’s global revenue. Prior to Symantec, he was executive vice president and general manager of storage and server management at Veritas Software, which grew from $1 billion in revenue to more than $2 billion during his tenure, prior to its acquisition by Symantec.
