Security Is Now Part of the Edge Ecosystem

AT&T Cybersecurity's Theresa Lanowitz Offers Best Practices for Edge Deployment
Theresa Lanowitz, head of cybersecurity evangelism, AT&T Cybersecurity

IT infrastructure deployed over the past four to five decades created a lot of silos. But those silos are starting to erode, said Theresa Lanowitz, head of cybersecurity evangelism, AT&T Cybersecurity. Organizations began to consolidate their data, applications and infrastructure with cloud computing. In some applications, there is a need to process data closer to the source, and that's what edge computing delivers.

The perception of and investments in the edge ecosystem have changed compared to what they were three to four years ago. Quoting from the 2023 AT&T Cybersecurity Insights Report, Lanowitz said survey participants are investing on average 22% of their overall edge budgets on security, 22% on applications, 23% on strategy and planning, and 30% on networking.

"Organizations are investing in the edge but they also know that their endpoints are changing," said Lanowitz. "They want to make sure they are future-proofing themselves and that they are going to be dynamic in their cyber resilience. That's because security edge is not linear or a straight line. It's a circuitous, often confusing, and often-changing environment."

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2023, Lanowitz also discusses:

  • The evolution of the edge ecosystem;
  • Key highlights from the 2023 AT&T Cybersecurity Insights Report;
  • Best practices and advice for edge deployments.

Lanowitz speaks on trends and emerging technology poised to help today's IT organizations flourish. Prior to joining AT&T Cybersecurity, she founded the industry analyst firm Voke to highlight emerging technologies and the benefits of adoption ahead of legacy analyst firms. Before that, she served as research director at Gartner.
