Personal data that resides within the company should be encrypted, and all aspects of data movement need to be secured, Krishnan says. But it's a fine balance, he adds, to maintain regulatory and standards compliance while also meeting customer needs for a frictionless experience and maintaining a risk prevention approach.

In this interview with Information Security Media Group, as part of the CyberEdBoard's ongoing Profiles in Leadership series, Krishnan also discusses:

  • Securing banking, financial services and insurance, of BFSI, sector data in a country with a challenging infrastructure and risk environment;
  • Detecting anomalies via employee training and technologies;
  • How behavioral analytics and intelligence systems can safeguard data and limit access while preventing leakage.

Krishnan's career spans more than 35 years. He has worked at Reliance Nippon Life for 15 years, at the helm of enterprise risk management and internal audit, business continuity planning, information security, legal, secretarial, and claims and compliance. Krishnan has used technology to implement a risk-based strategy across all these functions. He previously held roles at companies including DSP Merrill Lynch, ING Vysya, Credit Lyonnais, Standard Chartered, Bank International Indonesia, Ernst & Young and Deloitte.
