Next-Gen Firewall Security

Jerry Skurla of FireMon on How to Maximize Performance
Next-Gen Firewall Security
Misconfigured firewalls aren't necessarily a result of technical issues. Often, there are business or staff issues that can be easily addressed to improve security. Jerry Skurla of FireMon explains how.

"Ninety-five percent of firewall breaches are caused by misconfigurations, not because of problems with the firewalls themselves," Skurla says. "They're a very proven technology ... frequently not managed as well as they need to be because of the tremendous volume of activity going on around them."

In an interview with Information Security Media Group at the Gartner Security & Risk Management Summit 2013, Skurla discusses:

  • How business and human issues impact firewalls;
  • How common challenges can be resolved;
  • The new demands of the next-generation firewall.

Skurla is vice president of marketing at FireMon. He has more than 20 years of corporate, product and channel marketing experience at high growth security and networking organizations. Prior to FireMon, he served as executive vice President of marketing at NitroSecurity. NitroSecurity was acquired by McAfee in 2011.
