In a video interview at Information Security Media Group's recent 2015 San Francisco Data Breach Prevention and Defense Summit, Koilpillai discusses the importance of bringing business owners and insurance companies together to develop modern cyber risk management programs. She also discusses:
- The types of infrastructure threats businesses face from cyberattacks; and
- Why insurers must gather historical data from businesses to effectively judge cyber risk.
In addition to being founder and president of the Digital Risk Management Institute, Koilpillai is founder and CEO of Waverley Labs, a cyber risk engineering company. A pioneer in the field of digital risk management, Koilpillai has 30 years of experience researching and developing systems in computer security, network management and real-time distributed software. She leads the open-source software-defined perimeter effort for 'black' apps in the cloud with the Cloud Security Alliance and is an active contributor to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, leading the creation of a security risk index system for moving apps to the cloud (NIST 500-299). She was a key member of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's enterprise security management team, and has served as principal investigator for several Department of Defense initiatives.
