IBM Broadens Cybersecurity Products

IBM on May 5 announced the launch of new enterprise cybersecurity products and services to address advanced persistent threats, zero-day attacks and data breaches.

The IBM Threat Protection System leverages security intelligence and behavioral analytics to disrupt attacks from break-in to exfiltration, the company says. The system includes an end-to-end architecture of analytic and forensics software that assists with continuously preventing, detecting and responding to cyber-attacks, IBM says.

The services tackle three areas:

• Prevention: The company unveiled the Trusteer Apex solution for endpoint malware blocking and significant enhancements to the IBM Network Protection appliance for quarantining against attacks and new integrations with key partners' network sandbox capabilities.
• Detection: IBM enhanced its QRadar Security Intelligence platform with new capabilities to detect attacks and actively block exploits.
• Response: The company introduced Security QRadar Incident Forensics and is continuing to expand its emergency response services globally.

IBM has also launched a consulting service known as the Critical Data Protection Program, which offers a multi-phase approach to define, discover, baseline, secure and monitor the data security lifecycle within a company.

The latest announcements, IBM says, come after two years of investment in product development and the acquisition of companies including Q1 Labs, Trusteer, Guardium, Ounce Labs, Watchfire and Fiberlink/MaaS360.

In describing the reasons behind the launch of the new cybersecurity offerings, Kris Lovejoy, general manager for IBM Security Services, says: "Concerns over the ability to protect critical data from cyber-attacks have moved center stage in the board room. Cyber-attacks and loss of data have the ability to impact brand reputation, reduce shareholder value and open an organization to litigation."
