CNN first reported the hack, citing two sources briefed on the matter.

“This is an isolated incident that has been contained. As this is an ongoing investigation the FBI does not have further comment to provide at this time," the bureau said in a statement provided to Information Security Media Group.

The hack involved the New York Field Office and a computer system used to investigate child sexual abuse material, the sources told CNN.

The bureau also underwent a hacking incident in November 2021, when a threat actor compromised its external email system to send spam emails warning of a fake cyberattack.

The bureau said the emails were sent from its Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal system used to communicate with state and local officials. "No actor was able to access or compromise any data or PII on FBI's network," the bureau said at the time, referring to personal identifiable information.
