Cochran serves as Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s deputy chief information officer and division director of the Cybersecurity and DigitalOps Division, Computing and IT Directorate. He oversees cybersecurity, the office of the CISO, enterprise IT engineering and operations. Cochran also leads a five-year cybersecurity research and development initiative for the National Security Directorate. His management, technical, strategy and operational experiences span both government and the private sector, and he has over 30 years of experience in technology and over 25 years in cybersecurity, working in startups and for industry leaders such as Compaq/HP, Microsoft and the U.S. Department of Defense. Prior to joining PNNL in 2017 as CISO, Cochran worked at Microsoft, in the Cloud and Enterprise Azure Security Division. He also led Office 365 cloud security operations, served as a cybersecurity architect, directed the Global Security Strategy Team and was the Microsoft board member and officer with the Information Technology-Information Sharing and Analysis Center and a founding member and executive committee member of the IT Sector Coordinating Council. He served 27 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He has written over 200 articles and two books for publication and is a U.S. patent holder for invention in cybersecurity.
