What's Ahead for Trump on Cybersecurity Initiatives?

Ari Schwartz, Former Obama Administration Cyber Leader, Outlines Action Items
What's Ahead for Trump on Cybersecurity Initiatives?

The impact the Trump administration will have on public and private sector cybersecurity is uncertain, says Ari Schwartz, former special assistant to the president and senior director for cybersecurity in the Obama administration. But the White House is expected to release updates about where the federal government stands on the need for transparency in breach reporting, increasing threats posed by growing botnets fueled by internet-connected devices and cyber risks facing the electric and defense/industrial sectors, Schwartz says.

In this audio interview at RSA Conference 2017, Schwartz discusses:

  • The role "international norms" for cybersecurity standards will play;
  • Why the Trump administration should learn from Obama administration's cybersecurity policies; and
  • Why the Mirai botnet is a top concern for the government.

Schwartz now serves as managing director of cybersecurity services at Venable. He also coordinates the Coalition for Cybersecurity Policy and Law, a group of leading cybersecurity companies dedicated to educating policymakers on cybersecurity issues and promoting a vibrant marketplace for cybersecurity technology solutions. Before joining Venable, Schwartz was a member of the White House National Security Council, where he served as special assistant to the president and senior director for cybersecurity.
